Basic Application Requirements

The Cancer Biology GIDP recruits students through the Arizona Biological and Biomedical Sciences (ABBS) program, which integrates recruiting and admissions for 9 PhD programs (Cancer Biology GIDP, Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Genetics GIDP, Immunobiology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Medical Pharmacology, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Physiological Sciences GIDP, and Plant Sciences) in biological and biomedical sciences. Applicants interested in any of the following graduate programs should apply through a single application page as described below by: December 1.

The following items will be required for upload as part of the application process:

  • Transcripts of all college and university work
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Contact information for at least three people willing to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf. You should select individuals who are familiar with your work (one of these letters should be from your research advisor, if applicable). Potential letter writers will be contacted directly from the Graduate College with instructions on letter submission
  • The GRE exam is not required for admission

All applications must be submitted through the Graduate College online application website as follows:

  1. Go to the Graduate College Application Page (you can also reach this page by visiting the Graduate College website and clicking on the red "Apply Now" button on the upper right)
  2. Follow the online instructions to create an account.
  3. Follow the instructions in the e-mail you will receive to activate your account. (Check your spam/junk folder for the automated message if you can't find it in your inbox.)
  4. Begin the application process by completing each step to create your profile.
  5. Select "apply to a program" in the "My Active Applications" box.
  6. Select "degree seeking"
  7. Select "AZ Bio/BioMed Sci Doctoral Prg" as the program of study.
  8. Complete the steps in the "Application Checklist" box located on the right of your screen.

The Graduate College requires an application fee for all submitted applications. However, we will review all complete applications, regardless of whether or not the application fee has been paid. You will not be able to submit your application without paying the fee. Please note that the application system does not have the ability to verify if your application is complete unless the fee is paid. Therefore, if you choose to not pay the fee you should verify that all required items have been uploaded to your application, to ensure review by our committee.
